A Rhone-style Syrah with distinct berry fruit characteristics, highlighted by notes of cocoa, caramel and black pepper. Complex undertones of ripe raspberry and blackberry are followed by round, firm tannins and a velvety long finish.
This medium-bodied red is the perfect accompaniment to braised lamb shanks.

The grapes come from our Similkameen Vineyard in Cawston. The 2006 season started out with a cool and wet spring which resulted in a smaller yield with fewer berries. This was followed by a really nice and warm Okanagan summer perfect for good ripening. September and October was cooler which provided us with good acidity and allowed for fruit flavours to intensify and fully develop. A vintage with good concentration. The grapes were hand harvested on October 20th and only 300 cases were produced due to the extremely low tonnage in the vineyard.

The grapes went through a cold soak for 6 days to extract colour, flavour and tannins from the skins of the grapes. Next, the grapes went through fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 8 days. Finally the wine was gently pressed and racked into a mixture of new and two-year old French oak barrels and aged for 18 months.

"Low tonnage in the vineyard meant that the fruit concentration of the berries was much higher than usual. 18 months in oak barrels allowed for additional complexity to the finished wine".
