The 2007 season started off with nice warm weather early in the spring, which was followed by a cooler period through mid-May, which in turn gave way to the nice hot summer we are accustomed to in the Okanagan. The warmth allowed the grapes to fully ripen. A cooler September helped develop good fruit flavours and acidity.

The Merlot grapes come from a mixture of 14 and 18-year old vines, which during the winemaking process we keep separate and then blend together before bottling. After hand-harvesting the grapes went through a 5 day cold soak in order to extract colour and tannins from the skins. The berries then went through small batch fermentation. This was followed by oak ageing in a mixture of new and used French barrels for 18 months to add additional depth and complexity.

"This Merlot portrays how important the farming side of winemaking is. I have done very little to this red. With great fruit this wine portrays jammy berry fruit, dark chocolate and cassis."
