This is a unique red blend of Marechel Foch, Merlot, Gamay Noir and a Russian varietal called Michurinetz. Aromas of blackberry, cherry, plum and dark chocolate with raspberry, blackberry, coffee and soft smoky notes on the palate. A full-bodied red wine that displays soft tannins and a lengthy finish.
Enjoy with grilled flank steak, lamb or grilled portabella mushrooms.

This wine comes from our Similkameen Vineyard in Cawston and Reece Road Vineyard in Westbank. The 2006 season started off with light steady rain in the spring followed by ideal summer weather with a short-lived heat wave at the end of July. It continued relatively warm into late September, which provided us with an extended growing season that allowed the grapes to further develop flavours and acidity. The grapes for this unique red blend were hand-harvested between October 3rd and October 5th.

The blend for the 2006 vintage consists of Merlot, Michurinetz, Marechal Foch and Gamay Noir. Michurinetz and Marechal Foch tend to be more acidic which is offset by Gamay Noir and Merlot. The grapes were cold soaked to extract fruit flavours and colour from the skins of the grapes, before going through a warm ferment for 7 days. Following the pressing the wine was oak-aged in a mixture of new and used French oak barrels for 19 months.

"This blend is a unique wine that has hints of smokiness, leather and plum. The acidity from Michurinetz and Marechal Foch are complemented by fruit flavours from the Merlot and Gamay Noir."
